Adding a VoIP monitor
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a combination of hardware and software that enables users to use the internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using a designated IP. With Site24x7, you can monitor the voice quality of a call path, which is the WAN link between the source and destination of the VoIP call that you want to monitor.
First, you must configure your devices to send data to the Site24x7 On-Premise Poller for monitoring. Then, add your VoIP devices for monitoring, and analyze the performance based on key performance metrics. You can also configure thresholds to receive alerts when any of the metrics report an anomaly.
Prerequisites for VoIP monitoring
- Install the Site24x7 On-Premise Poller.
- Both the source and the destination devices should be a Cisco switch, firewall, or router.
- The Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS) version should be 12.4 or later.
- Enable the Internet Protocol Service Level Agreement (IPSLA) in the destination device.
- The source device and the interface should be monitored by Site24x7 with SNMP read-write community credentials.
Add a VoIP monitor
- Log in to your Site24x7 account.
- Go to Admin > Add Monitor, and click VoIP under Network.
- Enter the following specifics:
- Display Name: Provide a display name to identify the VoIP monitor.
- Source Monitor: Choose the source monitor from the drop-down menu, which initiates the voice call. This should be a Cisco device monitored by Site24x7, and must have a proper credential associated with the read-write community.
- Port: Enter a port between the range 16384 and 32767.
- Destination IP: Enter the IP address of the Cisco device that should receive the VoIP call. Configure the device to receive VoIP calls.
- Monitor Groups: Associate the VoIP monitor with a monitor group. Choose an existing monitor group or create a new one.
- Dependent on Monitor: Select a dependent monitor of your choice from the drop-down list. Site24x7 will suppress alerts for the configured VoIP monitor if the dependent monitor is already down. You can add up to five monitors as dependents.
- Specify the following details for Configuration Profiles:
- Threshold and Availability: Select a threshold profile from the drop-down list, use the default threshold profile available, or create a new one, and get notified when the resources cross the configured threshold and availability.
- Notification Profile: The Notification Profile helps to configure when and who gets notified in case of downtime. Choose a notification profile from the drop-down list, use the default profile available, or create a custom notification profile.
- User Alert Group: Select the user group that needs to be alerted during an outage, or add multiple users to a group.
- Tags: Associate your monitor with a predefined Tag or multiple Tags to help organize and manage your monitors creatively.
- IT Automation: Select an automation to be executed when there is a change in the state of a VoIP. The defined action gets executed when there is a state change and selected user groups are alerted.
- Click Save.
